Cosmetic contouring is a softer approach to enhancing your facial appearance by using fillers to contour the face and using wrinkle relaxers.

The Beauty Bit
Botulinum toxin (Botox or Bocouture) is used mainly to treat unwanted facial wrinkles. The most commonly treated areas are forehead lines, frown lines and crows feet. It is administered by tiny injections into the muscles to be relaxed or under the skin above the muscles to be relaxed. Although it is uncomfortable it is not a painful procedure. The procedure rarely takes longer than ½ an hour.
The effects of Botox usually take 48 hours to start to show, although it is earlier than that for some individuals. However total effects cannot be judged until 14 days following treatment. As a clinic we like to see patients at the 14 day stage to ensure patient satisfaction. The treatment is likely to be effective for at least 2 months, but some clients find the effects last 4-6 months. Some clients choose to get treated every time they notice the effects wearing off, other clients prefer to use it less frequently.
The Science Bit
Botulinum toxin is a chemical which is released by a bacteria which, when injected in and around muscles, prevents the muscles from contracting. It works by blocking the chemicals released from nerves.
It is only active by injection and cannot be absorbed through the skin itself i.e creams. It has a temporary effect lasting between 3-6 months. After which time the nerve ending which supply the previously relaxed muscle will return to their usual function to make the muscle contract as before.

Hyaluronic Acid is used mainly to improve volume under the skin, which can help to plump out wrinkles or hollows in the lower face caused by the ageing process or loss of facial fat. It is most commonly used to correct the nose to mouth furrows, to plump lips, and correct lines that bring the corners of the mouth down. It is administered by injections underneath the skin. It is rather more uncomfortable that Botulinum toxin and we usually suggest using local anaesthetic cream on the skin prior to injections.
The beneficial effects start to appear immediately but will slowly get better until around 10 days when you will see the full correction. The correction can remain from 6 months or longer, depending on product used, location of correction and individual.
We also provide treatment with filler to improve the general elasticity, hydration and appearance of skin in larger areas, such as cheeks, neck, décolletage and hands. This treatment is a two – three stage treatment using numerous fine injections of filler below the skin, both plumping out the skin and stimulating collagen production. This is called ‘vital’ treatment. Initial benefits can be seen after the course is finished but the total benefits of this treatment can take up to 6months to show, as collagen production is a slow steady process. The results last around a year, with some clients opting for an annual ‘top-up’.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring compound found in all of the tissues in the human body, over 50% of the total HA in the human body is found with our skin. It works by strongly attracting water to itself, meaning that it combines water molecules with itself safely filling space under the skin and hence plumping out dips and grooves. Over time it biodegrades completely.
